THIS WEEK:           
1)       An IPOD is missing. Please contact the office if you have located one.
2)       This week’s agilities for guys have been cancelled. 
3)       Art Club students need to come to the art room this week to help with conference posters.
4)       MOC meeting this morning (Friday) at 7:30 in Mrs. Hoekstra’s room. All 3rd quarter documents need to be turned in.
5)       HS girls track athletes need to bring sweatpants and sweatshirts for Fridays practice.  You will be going outside.
6)       Good luck to the 70 students who are trying out for next year’s cheerleading teams! TRYOUTS will take place today, March 5th  in the old elementary gym 3:50 to finish. For more information please contact Jen Nordhagen @ 681-5323 or djjrcnordhagen@live.com.
7)       STUDENTS: last day for turning in homework for 3rd quarter is TODAY, March 5th. Grades are due Monday morning at 8 a.m.
8)       Baseball hat money is due to coach Dirkx by today.
9)       Today is Ginger Hermons’s last day at CHS. She cannot thank everyone enough for making her time at Carlisle a truly pleasurable and rewarding one. Marie Maranell will sub for Ginger effective Monday, 3/8/10, until there is a permanent replacement. Please send Mrs. Maranell all discipline and attendance issues. 1)       Winter Sports Team Posters taken by Tracy Rector are available for purchase in the HS office. Cost is $10 each. Order action shots from Tracy on-line at: http://public.fotki.com/Trector62/ Tracy will also sell Winter Sports pictures (sponsored by the Booster Club) at the Winter Banquet on March 11.
2)       The Youth Leadership Initiative is building a library at First Church this Spring. If you have any books you would like to donate please bring them to the HS office.
3)       Social Service students need to have a summary of their quarter 3 experience turned in to Mrs. Lee by Monday before class starts.
4)       Congratulations to the following students. 7)       A rep from Northwest Missouri State will be here Monday, March 08, 2010 1:30 -2:00 p.m. A rep from Southwestern Community College will be here on March 23 from 9:30 to 10 a.m. A rep from DMACC will be here April 2 from 1-11:30 a.m. A rep from DMACC will be here on April 6 from 1 to 1:30 p.m. If you are interested in speaking with this rep see guidance for a pass.
8)       Iron Man dinner is scheduled for Tuesday March 9th  please meet at 6 p.m.
9)       Boys track meeting Tuesday, 3/9, immediately after school in the media center. See Coach Hoekstra if you cannot attend.
10)   Regular HS Conferences will be held with individual teachers on Tuesday, March 9, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the HS gym. Please pick up your child’s 3rd quarter report card at the secretary/principal table.
11)   Attention Junior Parents: The Carlisle High School guidance office is hosting a free presentation on college planning for high school juniors and their parents. The presentation will be led by a representative from the Iowa Student Loan College Access NetworkSM (ICAN) at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, March 9 (during parent-teacher conferences), in the High School Media Center. Topics will include: Preparing for college, What to consider when choosing a college, How to compare colleges, What to look for and ask during campus visits, And an overview of the financial aid process.
12)   AN EXTREMELY WARM THANK YOU goes out to the following parents for providing a meal on conference day for HS staff: Regina Overton for offering to provide a roaster of spaghetti and a variety of desserts. Thank you as well to Melody Jutting,  Jen Yates, Lori Landgren, Barb Abdulrahim, Monica Roland, Michelle Vollstedt, Diane Becker, Sharon Bittner, Zenda Adams, Kristi Williams, Marie Kennady, Jenni Stutsman, & Rachael Hagedorn.
13)   Any boys planning on playing soccer this spring please be at the pre-season meeting next Wednesday, the 10th at 4:10 in the 9th grade study hall room.
14)   ITAG is proud to announce the 2010 Young Scholars` Conference @ UNI on April 6th. (School transportation will be provided) Students will have the opportunity to meet with professionals, college students, and faculty or academic specialists who are knowledgeable in a field of their interest. Presenters will enlighten students about career opportunities, education and/or skills needed, the work ethic required along with information and perspectives on the career field(s) that are of interest to the students. Students will be encouraged to ask questions of the presenters. The conference agenda will include a continental breakfast, a keynote address, career workshop sessions, lunch, visits with college representatives from sponsoring colleges and universities, a choices session & campus tours. Registration fee is $25/student. Complimentary continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Eligibility: Students must be enrolled as a high school freshman, sophomore, junior or senior during the 2009-2010 school year and must meet any one of the following: 1.) Be identified eligible for a gifted/talented education program 2.) Rank in the top 5% of their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior class 3.) Be recommended by a letter of recommendation from the school. REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS  3:00pm, Thursday March 11, 2010. If interested see Mrs. Cupp for more information and registration forms.
15)   Winter Sports Banquet on Thursday, March 11. Banquet will be served at 6:30 p.m. Parents are asked to bring their own place settings and two covered dishes (main dish, vegetable, salad, or dessert) Carlisle Wildcat Booster Club will furnish drinks and dinner rolls. Separate award assemblies will be held for each activity. Tracy Rector will sell winter sports pictures during the banquet. Team Posters sponsored by the Booster Club.
16)   Students who are interested in the ACT prep nights here need to sign up in the guidance office and pay their $10 by Friday, March 12th
17)   THERE WILL BE SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, March 12. Spring break is March 15 – 19.
18)   Any boys interested in playing soccer this spring, you will need to have your physicals completed and turned in before you can practice.  Practice starts Monday, March 15.  Yes, that is spring break.  If you are out of town, you will be able to start practice whenever you come back.
19) Street Smarts Drivers Ed session is held on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:00 - 9:00 pm on the dates listed 3/30 - 4/2 (March 30 April 1,6,8,13,15,20,22,27 and 29) SIGN UP FOR THE NEXT SESSION ON-LINE http://www.streetsmartsdriversed.com  
20)   Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award for Iowa High School Juniors. Iowa juniors, does not evaluate grades, test scores, or essays. Applicants propose a project they want to accomplish. Approximately 15 juniors are chosen in April to participate and then complete their projects. In the fall of the senior year they make presentations about their projects at the Hoover Presidential Library-Museum in West Branch, near Iowa City. Each student receives a $1,000 stipend. Three are chosen to win $5,000 scholarships for a two or four year school anywhere in the nation. Deadline to apply is March 31, 2010. 21)   The MECA Sportswear rep will be at CHS on Thursday, April 1st over the noon hour. Students ordering letter jackets should bring any patches or award letters they would like to have Meca sew on their jacket. The rep will have men and women sizes to try on. A $75 deposit is due that day. Balance due when jacket arrives. Basic Jacket Prices: $141 (leather), $92 (vinyl) or $92 (wool sleeves).
22)   DMACC is hosting Discover Engineering Day on Wednesday, April 7 from 10am-1pm.   There will be information sessions for students and parents to attend.  Registration materials will be available soon.
23)   Jostens Junior Class Rep Mtg. on April 12 at 10:30 a.m.
24)   Program for Women in Science and Engineering with Iowa State University, Taking the Road Less Traveled: A Career Conference for Girls” announces the Spring 2010 Career Conferences. The conference’s goal is to expose girls, sixth through twelfth grades, to career paths within science, technology, engineering and math.  More than 2,500 individuals participate in this program each year.  In the morning, participants hear from professional women; in the afternoon they participate in hands-on activities or tours.  Please note that the cost per participant (students and adults) is $8. This spring’s conferences will be held on the following dates: April 8 (High School = Grades 9-12). 25)   Dollars For Scholars is announcing a NEW DATE for this year’s PEACH Affair. It will be held on April 10, 2010.

27)   HS junior/senior prom is May 8, 2010 @ the Historical Society Building.
28)   Attention parents!  Prom is coming up soon, and the After Prom committee would appreciate your participation with Grand March and After Prom activities.  We need several volunteers to help with setting up, decorating, donating water or energy drinks, chaperone, and clean up.  We are also looking for someone that may have a lift truck, or trailer that could help with picking up and returning items.  If you can help, please contact Deb Uhlman at 285-3235 or email debuhlman@hotmail.com if you are not able to volunteer, but would like to help monetarily, please send checks payable to Carlisle After prom, PO Box 93 in Carlisle.  We gladly accept donated items and gift certificates too!  These items would be given to students who attend After Prom.  Thank you for your consideration and help us to make this event is a memorable one!

30)    The 2010 Business Horizons will be held July 25-30 at Simpson College.  This is a week-long, hands-on, action oriented program for high school students who want to learn about what the future holds for them in the business world.  For more information you can download an application at www.businesshorizonsiowa.com or contact Ms. Hillebrand or Mrs. Hoekstra.
31)   Congratulations to the following 5 juniors who were selected for NCYL (National Council Youth Leadership): Samia Abdulrahim, Jessica Ermler, Mallory Ermler, Justin Hagedorn and Jordan Wilmes. There were 27 juniors who applied from CHS. It was a very difficult decision. Guidance thanks all who applied.
SENIORS:
1)      PEOPLESBANK is offering a $1000 scholarship. A biogaphy and essay titled, “The Importance of Community and Involvement” is required. Application deadline is March 10, 2010. Return application to Mrs. Heidemann or Mrs. Lee. Refer to attachment.
2)       Indian Hills Foundation Scholarship deadline is March 11.
3)       Community State Bank in Indianola is offering a $1500 scholarship to seniors who will be attending Simpson College in the fall.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Deadline is March 23.
4)      P.E.O. is an international women’s organization founded in 1869, promoting and supporting the education of women. Carlisle P.E.O. Chapter NT will be awarding a $600 scholarship to a Carlisle senior girl graduating in 2010. This scholarship is available to all senior girls pursuing study at a college or a program at the post-secondary level. Selection of the recipient will be made on the basis of character, scholarship, leadership and desire. A certificate of award will be presented at Senior Awards Night and the money will be paid to the recipient upon proof of enrollment in school. Application forms are available on the Carlisle Schools web page or at the guidance office at Carlisle High School. Forms must be completed and turned in to the high school guidance office by April 1, 2010.
5)       The South Des Moines Chamber of Commerce is offering two $500 grants to two students from the South Side of Des Moines.  Students must be a resident of the South Side of Des Moines and working or volunteering in a South Side business.  Students must also have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  All applications must be postmarked by April 9th.
6)       Jostens will deliver graduation caps and gowns, announcements, etc. on April 12 over the lunch hour.
7)       The Iowa-Nebraska International Association of Investigation Units is offering a $500 scholarship. Go to this website for more details: www.ia-neiasiu.com (click on the scholarship page.)
8)       Seniors:  Are you interested in a career in Massage Therapy? Therapeutic Solutions Massage Therapy School in Indianola is starting classes in January and July.  See the Guidance Office for more information. 
9)     Senior Awards Night is May 27 @ 7 p.m. at the Carlisle Middle School gym.
10) DFS Awards Ceremony is on May 27. Applicants are reminded they must be present to receive a DFS scholarship. The 11-year-old Carlisle Area Dollars for Scholars Chapter has presented $332,850 to 653 graduates. DFS is proud of all graduates hard work and volunteer efforts. Carlisle Area Dollars for Scholars is working hard to raise funds to help all future CHS graduates and we thank everyone in the PEACH community (Palmyra, Easter Lake, Avon Lake, Carlisle, and Hartford) who generously supports our CHS graduates.
11)   HS senior graduation ceremony is May 30, 2010 @ Simpson College.
