Carlisle Girls Upset # 7 DCG, Advance to Regional Final.
The Carlisle Girls Basketball team advanced to the Regional Championship game with an exciting upset win over Conference rival Dallas Center -Grimes 38 -35 on Saturday, Feb. 20th at Dallas Center High School. The Wildcats trailed the Mustangs going into the 4th quarter 32 – 23, however the Carlisle girls went on a 15 – 3 run, holding the Mustangs to just 3 free throws and no field goals in the final quarter, Seyerra Dubois and Morgan Spencer hit some key layups in the final 2 minutes, Jordan Gronewold led all scorers with 19 points, she also dished out 4 assists and had 5 rebounds, Meagan Flaws scored 8 points including two three point goals, Seyerra Dubois added 6 points, Morgan Spencer had 4 points and 5 rebounds, Shaquita Jones played well grabbing 7 rebounds, defensively Eboni Jones, Seyerra Dubois, Meagan Flaws, and Jessica Stocker did an excellent job stopping DCG’s top scorers. The Wildcats only committed 11 turnovers, and outrebounded DCG 24 -23. “It was a great team effort, we had a lot of different heroes in tonight’s game, every team member had something to do with the win I was very proud of their efforts”.
Carlisle improved to 15 – 8 for the season, the Wildcats will play in the Regional Championship game against Knoxville, Tuesday, Feb. 22nd for the right to play in the 2010 State Tournament.
Knoxville Gains State Trip By Defeating The Wildcats 50 – 43!
The Knoxville Panthers earned their first ever State Tournament Berth by defeating the Carlisle Wildcats by the score of 50 – 43 in a Regional Championship game played at Southeast Polk High School on Tuesday, Feb. 22nd. The Panthers made 11 out of 31 three point field goal attempts and were 9 of 13 from the free throw line, these were the key factors that led to their victory. Knoxville led after the 1st quarter 17 – 11, , the Wildcats led at halftime 23 – 22 and it was back and forth for the remainder of the game, Knoxville ended up making 7 out of 11 free throws in the final minutes to secure the win. Senior, Jordan Gronewold led all scorers with 20 points, she also grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists, Morgan Spencer added 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, Seyerra Dubois and Whitney Epp added 6 points apiece, Shaquita Jones scored three points and added 7 rebounds “ I thought our girls played extremely hard, they had a chance at the end, it just wasn’t meant to be, our 4 seniors played their hearts out and I’m very proud of their leadership that they provided.” The Wildcats finish the season with a 15 and 9 record, Good job, girls.
