Despite being on the wrong end of the score in several one run ball games this year; the freshmen boys baseball team dropped the Ballard Bombers 3-2 and 7-6 in extra innings in the nightcap. Game one was a pitcher’s duel as both teams combined for only five hits. Daniel Hupke went the distance on the bump striking out five in his complete game one-hitter. Centerfielder David Reid had two hits including a double to pace the offense. Joey Ermler and Hupke had the other two hits of the game.
Game two was a back and forth battle between two evenly matched teams. Ballard jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first only to see the Cats rally to tie the score 4-4 through two innings. The score remained the same until the top of the 6th when Ballard plated two runners to go ahead 6-4. This meant do-or-be done time for the Cats as Dylan Pinckney was hit by a pitch with one out. He moved to second on a Dallas Loney single. Ermler came up huge for the Cats as he ripped a fastball into right field to tie to score at 6-6. Daniel Schwartz then played hero as he comfortably drove a pitch deep to right center for a game winning hit to plate Ermler from second.
Loney led the offense going 3-4 and scored three runs. He also hit his freshmen record 12th double of the season. Ermler finished 2-3 with two runs scored and three rbi’s. Schwartz finished 2-2 with a double and his game winning hit. Nate Stickley stroked a single in his only plate appearance of the game to plate two runs.
