Every year the players on the Carlisle freshmen baseball team vote for the players they feel deserved specific awards. This year we had several different winners as the success of the team hinged on teamwork and many different players stepping up in clutch situations throughout the season. Below you will find the award winners and some comments from Coach Fletcher on each award winner.
Captain’s Awards:
This award goes to Joey Ermler, Daniel Hupke, and Dallas Loney as they were voted co-captains by their teammates before our official season began. The captains did a great job showing leadership, passion, and leading by example this season.
Offensive Most Valuable Player: Dallas Loney;
Dallas led the team in several offensive categories from his leadoff position in the lineup and was the catalyst for our offense. Loney finished the season batting .493 with 37 hits, 12 doubles, 24 runs, 18 rbi’s, and 16 stolen bases. Dallas had an on-base percentage of .659 on the season. Loney’s hit total and doubles total were both freshmen records at Carlisle.
Defensive Most Valuable Player: David Reid;
David pitched and played centerfield for us this summer. David was a phenomenal fielder as he used his instincts and experience to get a great jump on every ball hit into his vicinity. David did not commit and error all season in the outfield and made some great plays along the way.
Pitcher of the Year: Daniel Hupke;
Hupke was the team’s ace from day one. Daniel got the ball against stiff competition and late in the season also took on the role of being our closer. Hupke finished the year with a record of 5-2. He pitched 31 innings; striking out 54 batters and only walking 6 while allowing only 19 hits. He finished the season with a mere 1.81 earned run average. Daniel mixed up his pitches well to keep hitters off-balance and displayed outstanding control thoughout the season.
Overall Most Valuable Player: Dallas Loney;
Loney was voted overall most valuable player (to go along with offensive mvp) for not only his bat; but he was also our top catcher and played several other infield positions and also pitched for us. Dallas had a fantastic season and is very deserving of this award.
Mr. Hustle: Joey Ermler and Daniel Gramowski;
Both players were very deserving of this honor as they gave 110% in the offseason, in practice, and in games. Their effort and determination to improve helped our team in countless ways.
Most Improved: Chance Becker;
Chance improved immensely throughout the course of our season. Becker finished with a .344 batting average with 13 runs scored. Becker’s on base percentage was a stout .500. Chance played first base, outfield, and pitched for us as he was one of our teams’ four lefties.
Coaches Award: Jared Bailey and Nolan Miller
Bailey and Miller both represented the type of kids that we want in our baseball program. Jared and Nolan worked extremely hard, were coachable, and were both two of the first players to arrive at the ball field everyday and the last to leave. No matter the job, both of these players willingly did whatever was asked of them and their unselfish traits exemplified the character qualities that we love to have in our program.
Congratulations on a successful season and thank you to all who made it possible!
